Metro Atlanta - Machere Johnston-McGlotten, Class of 2009

I decided to run for the NAA Alumni Queen because as a millennial it's important that I bring awareness to the young alumni of SAU by setting an example and informing them that you don't have to be a certain age to run for the national alumni queen or any national position. I hope to make a difference by bridging the gap between young alumni, older alumni, and administration because there is a big disconnection between the groups. As young alumni, we often feel that certain activities and events don't attract the interest of younger alumni. We have to break some of the old habits and traditions that "St-Aug" is known to have.

Charleston - Shirley Peoples Grandison, Class of 1984

My name is Shirley Peoples-Grandison a native of Charleston, SC and a 1984 graduate of St. Augustine’s University; where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Intermediate and Elementary Education. I am employed with the Charleston Post & Courier where I have served for 35 years as a Customer Service Administrator. I decided to enter the contest to help students can pursue higher education, which I believe is critical for one to lead a successful life. As a graduate of the University, I want to do all I can to encourage and support the University by providing financial support and to recruit students.

I have also attended graduate school at North Carolina Central University (English) and Johns Hopkins University (educational studies). I received my human resources certification from Duke University as well. One of my future goals is to continue studies at North Carolina Central University in the academic field of school administration.

Washington DC Metro -Veronica C. Murry-Lockamy, 1987-1990

I attended Saint Augustine's College from 1987 to 1990 (3yrs), before I transferred to a college at home. I always considered SAU my undergrad experience because this is where I had my most formative years to adulthood. I was instilled with skills I never would have obtained or been exposed to with out having the experience of attending an HBCU and meeting life long friendships which manifested as rewarding in my life today. As an ambassador of the NAA & SAU, my hopes would be to impress upon our youth and young adults that we are a relevant, strong intelligent race of people with a strong base who shoulders we stand. Know your value, respect each other and uplift each other to go and do great things.
