Charleston - Shirley Peoples Grandison, Class of 1984

My name is Shirley Peoples-Grandison. I am a native of Charleston, SC, and a graduate of St. Augustine’s University where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in Intermediate and Elementary Education. I am employed with the Charleston Post & Courier where I have served for 35 years as a Customer Service Administrator. I decided to enter the contest to help students who want to pursue higher education, which I believe is critical for one to lead a successful life. As a graduate of the University, I want to do all I can to encourage and support the University by providing financial support and to recruit students.

Washington DC Metro - Veronica C. Murry-Lockamy, 1987-1990

I attended Saint Augustine's College from 1987 to 1990 (3yrs), before I transferred to a college at home. I always considered SAU my undergrad experience because this is where I had my most formative years to adulthood. I was instilled with skills I never would have obtained or been exposed to without having the experience of attending an HBCU and making life long friendships which manifested as rewarding in my life today. As an ambassador of the NAA & SAU, my hopes would be to impress upon our youth and young adults that we are a relevant, strong intelligent race of people with a strong base on whose shoulders we stand. Know your value, respect each other and uplift each other to go and do great things
